Glenn Sutter
As a conservation and human ecologist with more that 15 years of interdisciplinary experience, Dr. Glenn Sutter has been a life sciences curator at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum since 1997. Part of his curatorial research program looks at audience responses to The Human Factor exhibit, a series of award-winning displays he developed about the economic, environmental, and socio-cultural dimensions of sustainability. Along with Doug, Glenn is a founding member of the Canadian Working Group on Museums and Sustainable Communities and has written and spoken extensively about contributions that museums as sites of reflective, informal education. Glenn also touches on sustainability issues as a performing songwriter and a lecturer at the University of Regina, most recently through the Departments of Geography and Justice Studies, and the Faculty of Business Administration.
Glenn became interested in sustainability issues in the late 1980s as coordinator of the Canadian Global Change Program for the Royal Society of Canada. Through this experience, including discussions with many renowned ecologists, he began to view sustainability as a suite of issues that need to be addressed through systems thinking and adaptive management. He brings this perspective to bear in all of his sustainability work, including his role as chair of the Saskatchewan Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Network and provincial representative on ESD Canada. As a researcher and teacher, his is committed to fostering sustainable forms of community and regional development through education and the development of cultural indicators.
